The Interviewer
John Hollander is the founder and, with Juliet Knapton, one of the co-instructors who run the Advocacy Club. Founded in in 2007, the Club trains junior lawyers in the arts of advocacy, from interview skills and case analysis to examination and argument techniques. The Club fosters excellence, leadership, and collegiality.
John joined MBC Law Professional Corp.'s predecessor firm in 2001 and is a member of the firm's Financial Loss Recovery and Wills and Estates Law practice groups. He has practiced law in Ottawa since 1978, primarily as a civil litigator and trial counsel. John has conducted a great many civil trials throughout Eastern Ontario and has appeared many times in the Ontario’s appellate courts. He has presented at the prestigious Canadian Institute in Toronto and three times at the Civil Litigation Conference conducted by the County of Carleton Law Association. He has taught the intensive Trial Advocacy Course at the University of Ottawa's Common Law Program since January 2012.
John is responsible for the advocacy training programs at MBC. He includes young lawyers from other firms in his innovative Advocacy Club, which fosters both skills and collegiality. As part of the Advocacy Club, John presents more advanced sessions that train junior lawyers to deal with discovery, mediation, case analysis, use of themes, tactical cross-examination, expert witnesses and negotiation. Club graduates now participate in the presentation of the sessions to their colleagues and has over 250 graduates now practicing law across Canada.
