Chat with Lawyers

About the Podcast

Introduction

Welcome to Chat with Lawyers, where people who are (or will become) prominent in the legal community share insights on various topics of interest to litigators and legal enthusiasts. Seasoned litigator John Hollander conducts in-depth interviews with prominent figures in the legal field, offering valuable perspectives and knowledge.

Each episode lasts between 25 and 45 minutes, using an open-question format inspired by the Advocacy Club model.

The microphone as a metaphor

Engaging and informative! Chat with Lawyers has broadened my legal knowledge and inspired me to pursue a career in law. The interviews are captivating and insightful, making it a must-listen for all legal enthusiasts.

About Season 1

Season 1 features interviews where accomplished counsel present tips and guidance with respect to career development, an area of law (e.g. Construction, Family, Insurance), and a component of litigation practice (e.g. Discovery, Trial Preparation, Mediation).

An impressive group of Ottawa-area brand names volunteered to participate in these 1-on-1 interviews, including senior litigators, a senior solicitor, past presidents of the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA), mediators, and an arbitrator.

About Season 2

Season 2 features interviews with some younger lawyers than appeared in Season 1, including Advocacy Club members who can provide the perspective of junior barristers. Guests will discuss practice issues and techniques in an interactive exchange.

This season also features Great Canadians connected to the law. These remarkable people have made substantial contributions to their community. Interviews will focus on their community involvement and introduce the people behind the accomplishments. From creating (from scratch) a network of committed lawyers to assist Syrian refugees in starting a new life in Canada, to fostering access to justice across the country, to running a law school in the modern era, these Great Canadians can tell their stories to encourage others to think outside their boxes and to improve the lives of others.

About Season 3

Season 3 is more opportunistic. Interviews arise where there is an opportunity, and typically in support of an Advocacy Club event or objective.

If you have a topic of current interest, let's chat.

Great Canadians

During my practice, I have encountered several lawyers (including a law student) who struck me as having already contributed something of substance to Canada. Take a listen!
